Giving Back While Paying Forward Helps Centre Students

LucieDeveloping her inner strength and using that to help others do the same is a way of life for Lucie Bécus, Class of 1992. It’s also how she has built her career. A competitive athlete since her school days, running track and cross country in college for Centre, Lucie continues to focus on her level of personal fitness, strength and health. For the past 12 years, Lucie has owned and operated several Pilates studios, helping others improve their health and overall well-being.

As a successful small business owner and having operated and opened new businesses in several states, Lucie tapped into her personal tenacity and her business background from the earlier part of her career. She credits her success in business to the lessons she learned at Centre College, and the relationships she created here, many of which she maintains. The boldness that characterized her athletic career has helped her create new opportunities for herself and her clients. Her entrepreneurial spirit emerged from her confidence to imagine, create and try new things.

Including Centre in her own estate plans is one way Lucie chooses to give back. She says, “An academic scholarship made it possible for me to attend Centre, and now I’m pleased to be able to return the favor for future Centre students.” Lucie knows that liberal arts colleges do not train their students for specific jobs or careers. Her time at Centre did, however, prepare her to lead, create new paths for herself and seek a future where she can use her talents to help others. That has been Centre’s mission for the last 200 years.

Join Lucie in supporting Centre’s work to equip students for their own bright futures. A gift in your estate, or from your donor advised fund, or to create a life income gift for yourself will help Centre students and graduates be forces for good in their communities and the larger world.
